In this illustrated talk, Lynn Downey will explain what a dude ranch is, and talk about its 140-year history in the United States. Dude ranching is an important part of American culture, and has influenced movies, books, clothing, and the role of women. Sometimes in a very funny way.

Lynn Downey is a consulting archivist and historian. She works with museums, libraries, and businesses to organize their historical materials and create exhibits. She was the Levi Strauss & Co. company historian for twenty-five years, and gave the first Levi Strauss Lecture in 2009. She is also an author and has won awards for her history books, novels, and short stories, including the 2016 biography, Levi Strauss: The Man Who Gave Blue Jeans to the World.
